PostNL Tracker

A subtle, user-centric, tracking device to attach to premanufactured roll containers to refine and optimise the logistics of a national postal service.

PostNL serves as the Netherlands' national postal service and has been progressively enhancing its logistical operations through the integration of technology. This boosts efficiency and promotes employee well-being but also garners improved customer reviews. Moreover, this tech-driven approach enables them to future-proof their business and seamlessly incorporate innovations into their adaptable system.

Complex logistical systems.

PostNL handles 8.1M letters and 1.1M parcels a day. As well as other much larger items. Introducing real-time feedback and technology into their systems will create efficient logistical chains and avoid costly delays.

Exploring. Iterating. Refining.

Initial exploration was executed in rough sketchbook sketches. These were developed further in quick 3D modelled and rendered forms, without A-class surfacing and technical details. Once presented and discussed, the selection was surfaced, engineered, and prototyped.

User centric design approach.

Due to the high volume of daily parcel deliveries, there's a significant need for mass infrastructure. Therefore, the newly designed tracker should prioritize easy installation and implementation, following a user-centred design approach to ensure seamless integration into existing systems.

Ensuring a super simple assembly.

Minimising the total number of parts offers dual benefits, enhancing cost-effectiveness and streamlining assembly processes. This reduction benefits both Post NL and the end user by optimizing efficiency and minimising complexity.

Soft, pebble form language.

Through numerous distilled moodboards, iterations, and client feedback,  an aesthetic language was created. Ensuring the design process has a  reference, ensuring the output is aligned to the clients input.

50,000 units rolled out.

Each tracking device was installed on PostNL's fleet of 50,000 roll containers, aiding the national postal service in integrating and deploying technology within its operations.
